Join artist and educator Brandy Godsil at Freeweaver Studio for an intimate artist talk.

Brandy’s practice combines weaving, natural dyeing, eco-printing, felting, embroidery and tailoring. Inspired by nature, personal mythology and cultural histories, she creates experimental textiles and bespoke garments rooted in sustainable practice.

She will discuss her creative journey, international textile residencies and her work with Intertwine Arts, a non-profit organisation providing weaving opportunities for people with disabilities.

The Rooted Textile Festival Talk- Brandy Godsil is a textile artist, fashion designer and educator with over 15 years of experience creating and working in the textiles and fashion industry. She creates textile art and garments that include a variety of processes, such as weaving, natural dyeing, eco-printing, felting, embroidery, and tailoring. With a focus onexperimental textiles and sustainable fashion design methods, Brandy creates bespoke garments and one-of-a-kind artworks that are inspired by nature, as well as cultural and personal mythologies. Her work incorporates life drawing, historical research and creative storytelling, creating custom garments and tailoring for major performances and red-carpet events.Join Brandy in this inspiring session to hear about her journey and practice in textiles. Brandy graduated with a BFA in Fiber Art and Experimental Fashion Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2009 and completed tailoring and pattern making apprenticeships in New York City. She studied Experimental Fashion at Central Saint Martins in London and Painting at Parsons School of Design SummerProgram in New York City. She has participated in group textile residencies in Oaxaca, Mexico with Thread Caravan and Texere, and at the Ós residency / Icelandic Textile Center in Blönduós, Iceland. Brandy is completing her Master’s degree in Art & Design Management and Creative Organizations from LUM University in Milan, Italy. Brandy is co-founder. advisor, and teaching artist of non-profit weaving arts organization Intertwine Arts, where she teaches weaving to people with disabilities.
